There is a gap in knowledge regarding the factors that influence feeding outcomes for children with congenital heart disease (CHD) and the relationship of neurodevelopmental outcomes to feeding status. Children with CHD are at risk for requiring feeding tube supplementation and long-term feeding difficulties yet we do not understand which factors are linked to long-standing feeding difficulties and the need for feeding tubes. Understanding the feeding progression and developmental outcomes of children with CHD will help to identify strategies for different or earlier intervention to avoid these chronic problems.
